This position is responsible for the accurate assistanceof pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care to both in-patients andout-patients. Computer entry andprocessing of patient drug orders; sterile and non-sterile preparations ofliquids and solid dosage forms; care and ordering of supplies and equipment;training of trainees; processing of admittance, discharge and transfer ofpatient drugs; restocking of automated dispensing machines; nursing unitinspections; performing miscellaneous related tasks.
A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required. TheTexas State Board of Pharmacy must license the candidate, which is contingentupon becoming certified by the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board(PTCB) within 1 year of employment. The candidate also has to successfullycomplete the sterile products training curriculum mandated by the Texas StateBoard of Pharmacy within 6 months of starting employment.
Registration- Texas State Board of Pharmacy within 1 year of employment.
Certification- Sterile Preparation within 6 months of employment.
2 - 3 years pharmacy technician experience preferred but not required.
Desirable characteristics include a proficiency in written and verbalcommunications, mathematical calculations, computer literate, possess abilityto establish and maintain effective working relationship with others; and anability to perform within time frame without loss of accuracy.
Must be able to follow directions and to perform work according todepartment standards when no directions are given.
Must be able to function effectively under stress.
